underverse TK Custom.

Possibly the coolest and most unique project my partner and I have had the opportunity to work on- the Underverse Custom TK Contest. A big fan of the art of Ashley Wood, his work with 3A introduced me to the world of designer figures. His Steele Age Batman and Joker (my white whale) were some of the first I ever collected, and as the company shifted to Underverse and producing some incredible and extremely fun releases I began frequently adding to them.

The Canvas competition was put out by Underverse, in where the entrants were to create their own version of a Tomorrow Kings figure, painting and accessorising a completely blank figure, including seperate different heads, swords, guns and grenades.

Initial designs and ideas were done on Procreate and then I just had to bite the bullet and dive into painting everything. Acrylic paint, guache and inks were used as well as some repurposed mixed media to create all of the miniature items, holders, ropes and bands- the weapon holder even made from an old bra strap. The fine painting was a huge challenge, and dealing with colouring fabrics a bit nerve-wracking as we didn’t have any spares, but the finishing and weathering was extremely rewarding.

I went for a bit more of a classic TK style where as my partner created a beautifully unique design, covering hers in plants and flowers and making her own little fox. Although we didn’t end up winning, our entires were very well received, and more importantly we were introduced to the Underverse discord, full of other Artists, fans and collectors, where everyone was such an amazing support of all of the various takes on the custom figure. We made many new friends and the best part of all was that we get to keep our custom figures :)
